Had a nice conference call with Mike Kennedy the other day. mike is running for Utah House of Representatives in LD27 (obviously from the title).
Good guy! Seems balanced, smart, strong background. He’s a family practice doctor with a law degree, which means he has a firm understanding of how entitlements like Medicaid and Medicare are corrupting our medical care delivery systems. He’s a constitutionalist with a firm grasp of how deeply the federal government has slowly been encroaching on state’s rights. Mike is smart enough and understands our national crisis well enough to earn my vote for Congress, but he’s choosing to start in the state Legislature because he feels that’s where his talents and experience will have the greatest impact. Given the fact that medical entitlement reform is going to be our state and our nation’s next big battle, I agree. If elected I think Mike will be the only practicing medical doctor in the legislature. We need more.
Here in CH03 where I live we’ve been through a lot with regard to our representation in the state house. We lost Craig Frank because someone forgot to include us on a legislative district map. Watched our neighbors elect Holly Richardson, who then resigned to run Dan Liljenquist’s Senate campaign. Saw Craig Frank move out of our precinct so he could reclaim his old legislative seat. We sued to have the state correct all the issues with our district lines and to get our voices heard on who we wanted to represent us. We got redistricted in to LD27 with john Dougal as our representative – a nice guy, but we didn’t vote for him so… After all this, I think we’re finally ready to have our voices heard, and I think the best way to do that is to start with a clean slate.

I think you’ll be as impressed as I was.
