Ok, for the record, I’m just having fun here.  I waited days for somebody to explain to me what Occupy Wall Street, Salt Lake city, Main Street, whatever was all about for for days all I got was vague garbage from numerous people with varying levels of interest in the movement all of whom had completely different ideas of what it was all about.

I heard everything from campaign finance reform to downright communist confiscation of private wealth.  Well, finally the ‘manifesto’ arrived…and it’s STUPID!!!

I’m going to take a few minutes here and there to poke oles in it.  I don’t expect anyone to take what I write very seriously because that would require a subject worth taking seriously, but I’m going to do it anyway just to get it off my chest.

So here it goes!

Part 1 – “We write so that all people who feel wronged by the corporate forces of the world”

Corporate forces of the world?  What is this, a James Bond film?

The fact is the ‘corporate forces’ OWS is referring to represent millions of people…not just employees but investors.  Back in the days when Carl Marx was respected as a modern scholar the people who owned corporations were rich families and heirs.  Today corporations are owned by ordinary people.  They’re young, they’re old, they’re saving for college or for a first car.  They buy and sell corporations online or face-to-face with investment advisors at their local community bank or credit union.  The ‘corporate forces’ are now US…more specifically THEY ARE ME!!!

Yes I (like most Americans) work for and own stock in a corporation.  Those of us who do not work for a corporation count a corporation as the biggest clients or suppliers of the places where we DO work.  Prior to working for the 9th largest corporation in the world, I worked for a medium sized corporation that used to be a small business that relied heavily on large corporations for the bulk of our revenue.  In the end 1,500 people relied on our corporation ad the corporations who were our clients for our living.  Corporations paid for my house, my car, even my lavish $45,000 Park City wedding!

When it comes right down to it, the ‘corporate forces’ are the people…just the people coming together for a higher purpose.  Be that purpose delivery of a needed service or a killer product, there are some things we can’t do alone funded only by our savings bonds and proceeds from selling the stuff in our garages.

To be who we are and produce what we do, Americans have built entities bigger than ourselves and we call them Corporations, the French call them Societes, the Swedish Foretag, the Turks…well, you get the idea.

If OWS or OSLC or whatever want to fight the evil corporate forces, they’re fighting me (and you for that matter).  I for one say BRING IT ON!!!  You’re not taking my home, my savings, or my life without a fight.
